Flash on iPhone? Not really, but kind of, sorta...

At MAX, Adobe announced a way to build apps and deploy on iPhone.  Huzzah!  Isn't this what we have been asking for for a LOOOONG time?  Not really....<more/>What follows is opinion.  Take it as such.

According to the Adobe website, with Flash Pro CS5, you can write your applications using Flash/AS3, and then compile to an IPA (iPhone Application) native file.  That means no runtime support for .swf files, just monolith applications compiled as .ipa's.

I give some of the credit of the underlying approach to Apple however.  Adobe has stated (and I have so far believed them) that they wanted to bring Flash to iPhone.  Of course Adobe wants that.  Flash developers want it.  iPhone owners want it.  Apple DOESN'T want it. Why? Because flash on the iPhone means that iPhone users will play games through the web browser using Flash instead of buying apps from the app store, which is where they are making a killing right now.

So, in my opinion, Apple thinks, "how can we give developers what they want, and still have complete control?" The answer wasn't to make Flash run on iPhone, but rather give the Flash developers a supported way to get Flash apps into an IPA format.  This way Apple still retains full control, you still have to go through the app store to get it on customer's iPhones.  So was this Adobe being innovative with what they had to work with, or Apple simply telling Adobe what hoops they have to jump through?  You make your own decisions.  I think while Adobe is still being a bit innovative, they are still just jumping through Apple's hoops, because thats the way Apple works, period.

I am very pleased that Adobe stepped up to the plate to make this happen, and (i am making assumptions here...), I think Apple probably deserves most, if not all, of the credit for coming up with the most restrictive method possible to appease flash developers.

I recently got a new Macbook Air 11" (the 2012 version) and loaded it with goodies like 8GB ram and 2GHz Core i7.  What I DIDN'T upgrade was the internal SSD.  My config came with 128GB SSD and I refused to pay $300+ to upgrade it to 256GB.  Yeah I know, some call me cheap, but SSds cost $75-$150 for 240GB, so adding another 128GB for $300 seemed way too steep for me.  I figured "ok, I'm going to make 128G work!"
